Fully qualified Primary School Teacher with QTS EDUCATION
Northampton University: PGCE Primary Education with QTS
University College London: MA in Reading Recovery
I am a fully qualified Primary School Teacher with a PGCE. I have over 10 years of classroom teaching experience. I have been teaching 1-2-1 over seven years in my local infant school, firstly with a Year 1/2 maths intervention before moving to Reading Recovery.
I completed my Reading Recovery training year in June 2015 at UCL. Rachel stayed at home for several years to bring up her family and returned to work in school in 2008. In addition to classroom teaching, i have also been doing some tuition from my home – all online via video link since the start of the pandemic.
My specialist area is Key Stage one, although i also have experience tutoring Key Stage Two children who are struggling with reading and writing and had additional learning needs. I encourage engagement in my lessons and wish to provide a space where students feel comfortable to ask questions or say they are unsure.
Through continual praise and encouragement, I am well suited to be able to help students that are anxious or cannot grasp areas of their subjects. I provide a plan of action for going forward and keep parents consulted on their child’s progress. I am also happy to set homework questions to build upon the skills covered in the lessons and will mark and give feedback on any work completed.
I am a mum to three grown up sons, the youngest of which is studying for his A levels whilst the oldest is focusing on completing a degree in Architecture.
One of her sons has high functioning Autism with additional needs, meaning she has a lot of personal experience in helping children who are on the spectrum and may require a different approach to their education. I have always loved reading and enjoys being able to pass on this skill to the next generation.
In recent years I attended some overseas volunteer projects in the school holidays to help children there develop their English language skills, enhancing their employment opportunities for the future. I very much enjoying teaching online and is finding it to be an exciting new way to educate young people.
The platforms I use to teach online are Zoom and Microsoft teams.
The ability to experience each student’s progress at every stage is incredibly rewarding and a wonderful part of my role as a tutor. I look forward to teaching your son/daughter!
