I am a fully qualified and highly experienced English Language & Literature teacher with QTS and have thorough subject and exam knowledge. I’m friendly, easy going and have had excellent results by building good relationships with my students.

I have a BA (Hons) in English Literature from  University of Sheffield and a PGCE in Secondary English with QTS from Leeds Trinity University

As an experienced teacher with over 12 years experience in both the state and independent sector, I am able to provide support with English Language or English Literature. I have prepared pupils for AQA GCSE, WJEC GCSE and also the IGCSE examinations.

In addition, I have also taught both English Language and English Literature at A level and I have worked as an examiner for A level Literature. I can provide targeted support with A level coursework or examination components.

Furthermore, as the Key Stage 3 English coordinator in my school, I have an excellent knowledge of the skills required in Year 7, Year 8, and Year 9. I can offer short-term or long-term courses to help your child achieve their goals.

I am passionate about discussion in the subjects I teach to build confidence in my students, but similarly enjoy the process of trading ideas that helps to provide a fresh perspective to my own academic work! I encourage engagement in my lessons and wish to provide a space where students feel comfortable to ask questions or say they are unsure.

Through continual praise and encouragement, I am well suited to be able to help students that are anxious or cannot grasp areas of their subjects. I provide a plan of action for going forward and keep parents consulted on their child’s progress.

I am also happy to set homework questions to build upon the skills covered in the lessons and will mark and give feedback on any work completed. The platforms I use to teach online are Zoom and Microsoft teams.

The ability to experience each student’s progress at every stage is incredibly rewarding and a wonderful part of my role as a tutor.

Allow me to thank Sue Schulkins for the wonderful work she has done with our son’s English classes. We have seen our son’s interest grow as the sessions have progressed. Before Sue started out with him - I noticed she gathered as much information as she could and she listened to us and even adopted some of our methods. She improved on them and added her own unique creativity. She was very unlike some teachers who would insist on using their own method - she never did that. She was able to find out from our son his expectations and discovered he loves unusually funny narratives. She incorporated this into her curriculum and we have seen such a marked improvement in his English comprehension. He is having fun during the English sessions and his work has improved. He is attentive and focused. Sue Schulkins is certainly a different kind of teacher and we are very happy with her work. Well done Sue.

My son worked with Katie Jackson for his GCSE Combined Science ( Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) and it made a real difference. The lessons were engaging and helped him get much more confident with tricky topics and exam-style questions.
