I am an Ex-RAF specialist linguist, with operational experience throughout Europe and French-speaking Africa.  I was based in Germany for 10 years, training German paratroopers, and spent another decade in Spain. Following many years of overseas postings and deployments, I finished my military career as a French, Spanish and German teacher at the Defence School of Languages.  On discharge I became a journalist in military and education publications. However, after 10 years of journalism I decided to return to teaching modern foreign languages, and now teach part-time at a grammar school and, when not in the classroom, tutoring teenagers.  Moreover, given my background in Latin and other languages, I am invariably the lead in teaching written English.  I am an examiner for AQA and Edexcel at A Level and GCSE, and the iGCSE Board.
