Rasheed Ajani Idowu-Mathematics
Fully qualified Mathematics Teacher
I am a Mathematics teacher who has taught for twenty years at the Secondary School level delivering excellent results over the years. After my basic and secondary education, I proceeded to obtain my first degree in Mathematical Sciences (Statistics option) from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria. Upon discovering that I derive great joy at teaching and imparting knowledge, I went further to get a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Nigeria.
Due to my quest for personal development and my love for learning, I went to the prestigious University of Lagos, Nigeria; where I bagged my Masters and Ph.D. in Measurement and Evaluation respectively. I have trained students for different standard examination bodies such as:
Cambridge Checkpoint Examinations
Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education
West African Examinations Council (WAEC)
National Examinations Council (NECO)
National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB)
These experiences in training these students gave me a good understanding of what it takes to teach and make students pass their examinations in flying colours, tackling the challenges students grapple with during examinations have always made me stand out as I leave no stone unturned in ensuring that all students under my tutelage always smile after writing their examinations because all they need to know before the examinations are always covered. One of my personal teaching philosophies is that: teaching is not complete until teachers inculcate the examination culture in their students commencing from: diagnostic assessment to formative assessment stage and finally to the summative assessment stage.
I can teach Mathematics at any level and sometimes I have been saddled with the responsibility of taking terminal examination classes, in which excellent results have been delivered. For instance, at Caleb International College (the year 2018 and 2020), 85% of my students made distinction in Mathematics. My students have also made great success in IGSCE and Checkpoint examinations with almost 100 percent distinction in Mathematics.
MY UNIQUE SELLING POINT (USP)
Making the already written off students succeed academically by encouraging them positively and by sacrificially working with them is an innate tendency in me. I have a vast record of working with students who have been written off by both their parents and the school community; yet with proper guidance, empathy, love and subsequent encouragement such have excelled. Such students' learning tasks are broken into bits and introduced to them in a way that they would not be scared of the content. By the time they have delved into the core learning task, they would not face the initial challenges. Impressive feedback from parents have proved my good qualities in teaching as exceptional! One of the numerous cases was an intellectually challenged student who does not practically understand Mathematics and subsequently had been getting low grades before I was employed into Yaba College of Technology Secondary School in Lagos Nigeria. After a few months of teaching that class without necessarily paying attention specifically to that child, his interest arose in Mathematics.
My teaching skill is second to none because I relate every topic to our daily life which is supported by manipulative materials and interesting videos that make the learning indelible in their memories. Most times, I take my students for nature walks around the school environment for them to make observations about our learning and also explore the mathematical enquiry skills to make inferences which they will in turn relate to their learning experiences. I personally monitor the weak students who are not bright as others, this I do on a weekly basis by spending extra time revising topics taught for the week with them after getting due permission from their parents and the school management. Not only this, I have over the years developed myself into possessing Quality Customer Service relationship/techniques as regards ethical conduct with parents, students and all stakeholders in any school community I find myself.
I love teaching with passion hence, I am open to learning current trends and best practices in the education sector. Working with your school will offer me the opportunity to improve on my skills in my teaching career as a Mathematics Teacher having been keeping abreast with your doggedness in pursuit of excellence in education. Having gone through the professional certification in Educare training duty of care by COBIS, Partner School Global Network training certification by British Council and Cambridge IGSCE, I have been equipped with skills that facilitate learning and factors that may impede the learning of a child and how to overcome such challenges. Apart from this, I coordinate club activities, School Assemblies, enrichment lessons, support classes, prefect training, coordination of prefects’ magazine, examination questions, newsletter vetting and other duties as delegated.
