Fully Qualified Functional Skills English teacher

BIO

I am a Functional Skills English Tutor with over 12 years’ experience in the field.  English is my craft.  This is exemplified by my proven track record with up to 92% pass rates.  Recent outcomes for this academic year have remained the same.

Having sat all 3 elements of the Level 2 Functional Skills English Assessment myself, I am very familiar with the process, practice and expectations for this qualification.

In view of possible learning needs that could potentially become barriers to learning, I possess a wealth of skills for enabling learning throughout the entire learning journey.

In 2012, I wrote and piloted a Maths and English programme called ‘Pathway’ in Jamaica for one of the education and training foundations.  My focus was the diverse needs of prospective students who have experienced gaps in their learning journey and were wishing to re-enter education for skills training in line with Government requirements.  The programme is still active.

My speciality is applying strategies for teaching and learning that will engage all levels (Entry 1 – Level 2) and ability learners at their particular pace and pattern of learning within the learning journey.

Engaging, inclusive, interactive are words that define each of my lessons.  I believe that one-to-one sessions will be useful where it may not be possible to address some types of needs identified within sessions.

Further, I am convinced that a reflective approach to teaching and learning is important for constantly checking my own practice.

I look forward to working with you whenever you decide to start your Functional Skills English learning journey.
