BIO
I am a fully qualified GCSE, A Level Physical Education teacher with over 25 years teaching and tutoring experience. I am also an examiner for both GCSE and A Level PE. My teaching career has seen me teach in the UK, China and Spain and in each position, I was teaching examinable PE using an internationally recognised exam board (OCR, AQA, Edexcel, CIE or IB). My PE teaching degree is from Exeter University, and I have a MA in Education from Bath University.
My approach to both tutoring and teaching is to focus on the individual needs of each student. The theoretical aspects of PE cross several disciplines from science to psychology and socio-cultural issues. Naturally not all students perform well in each discipline, so it is vital to establish their areas of strengths and those areas that they find more challenging. I focus on ensuring my students have a good understanding of the theory content and can apply their knowledge across a range of physical activity related scenarios. The ability to apply and evaluate knowledge is key to accessing higher grades.
In addition to ensuring students have a good level of understanding, I also work on exam technique and particularly focus on the longer answer questions. My students are given the skills and confidence to break down these questions and write answers that not only recall the facts but that also demonstrate the depth of knowledge and understanding they have. My lessons aim to build a trusting relationship so my tutees are confident they are receiving the support they need and can identify the progress they are making. The lessons are interactive, and student led. I have extensive experience tutoring online and am familiar with a range of resources that can be used to ensure engagement in lessons and maximum output and outcomes for the student.
I am also experienced supporting students in the written and oral aspects of their coursework. This is often a key component that can change a grade and needs to be prioritised in the months before the exam. I am very happy and able to work with students on this aspect of the course as a solid performance in this will also help consolidate the knowledge they need for their exams.
I find it reаlly rewаrding tо see а student reаch their gоаls аnd tаke pride in inspiring аnd cоntributing tо their аchievements. I аspire tо deliver success fоr аll оf my students.
